Lawry's Prime Rib, Las Vegas

January 2013

Lawry's Prime Rib was one of my parents picks. I'd never been too and been a beef lover I have no idea why i didn't visit sooner....

234

Lawry's really provides a full meal, we didn't order any starters or any sides and our Lawry's cut came with.

236
The famous spinning salad (or the end result)

237
The Lawry's Cut with mashed potato sides $42 - Medium Rare, just the way I like it

Roy's, Summerlin, Las Vages

January 2013

While Roy's originated in Hawaii, we had already decided to visit at one of the two Las Vegas locations. The food was fabulous and the service spectacular. I would definitely return - hopefully the original in Hawaii.

I don't drink, but we all started with Mai Tais (mine of the non alcoholic variety)

151

We shared to starters, the first being Panko Crisped Calamari

154
Calamari $11.95

The second was Roy's Canoe for Two (or three!), which included Lobster Potstickers, Luau Chicken Spring Rolls, Teppanyaki Shrimp, Grilled Szechuan Pork Ribs, Spicy Tuna Roll

153
Canoe for Two $26.95

We all had different mains, mine being the Surf and Turf that I'd heard so much about, the steak was cooked just right.

155
Surf and Turf $39.95

Mum had the Macadamia encrusted Mahi Mahi

156
Mahi Mahi $28.95

Dad had the Shellfish Sampler, which included half a lobster tail, Seared Crab Cake, U10 Sea Scallop
& Shrimp

157
Shellfish Sampler $36.95

Serendipity 3, Caesars Palace, Las Vegas

January 2013

My mother and I decided to have a fun early dinner at Serendipity 3, Caesars Palace, Las Vegas. It's a fun little spot with a neat menu.

170

The main reason for our visit was the try the Frozen Hot Chocolate, which may sound like a contradiction but is basically the mix you would use for hot chocolate in a frozen form (if your still confused try one!).

174
Frozen Hot Chocolate for Two $15

We decided to split the Safe at Home Wagyu Sliders

177
Wagyu Sliders $14 and a side of onion rings $5

And of course I couldn't resist a side of onion rings (with parmesan cheese!)

Mon Ami Gabi, Paris Hotel, Las Vegas

January 2013

People always rave about Mon Ami Gabi in the Paris Hotel, Las Vegas, which sometimes makes me a bit skeptical  however I was glad my mother and I had brunch here on our latest visit of Las Vegas.

222

We both started with cappuccinos which were good but a little bit pricey ($4.95) compared to the rest of the menu.

I had heard that the eggs benedict (with Canadian bacon) was made with fresh english muffins, and it was as good as I'd been told.

224

Eggs Benedict with Canadian Bacon $14.95

227

While my mother enjoyed the blueberry waffles made from scratch.

225

Blueberry Waffles $11.95

The food was fresh and fabulous. We didn't sit outside as it was a bit cool and while they have heaters we both don't like to get chilly.

The Cosmopolitan, Las Vegas

January 2013

I've been to Vegas six times now and this is only the second time I've stayed on the strip, the last time was on my first trip in 1997 when my Grandmother and I stayed at Bally's.

So my mother and I decided to live large and stay at The Cosmopolitan in the City Center area.

I was concerned that it might be a little bit too trendy for us but it was perfect.

160

161

We stayed in the Terrace Studio with a Fountain View, and it was worth it.

165

210

The Bellagio fountains go off every 15 minutes in the evening, and the view on the balcony was spectacular, while the view from the bed wasn't bad anyways. The bed was also extremely comfortable (does anyone know which bed they have?).

183

There was one issue, with us getting woken up by a room service order that we didn't order and a very insistent delivery man but other than that it was a great stay.

West Coast USA 2005: Day 13 - 17

May 2005

This was my second trip to Vegas and DHs first. If you've been following my blog for a while you know we both went in January 2010 and I also went in June 2010. No we don't have a Vegas obsession, but I do have family there and who needs anymore of a reason to visit Vegas than that?

Neither DH nor I gamble, I don't drink, so you may think what is there to do in Vegas for us? Plenty, and I will summarize below what we did in this trip. Check out my old posts for some more great ideas.

Eat
The Bootlegger Bistro
If only I could remember the name of the place - but awesome Prime Rib

Do
Jubilee at Bally's

Tournament of Kings - a great fun night out, and with a meal included it's great value

Valley of Fire - bring lots of water, there is none available when your out and about at the park

MGM Grand Lion Habitat - best thing is it's free

Walk up and down the strip - by time you check out the main casinos this will take you most of the day

Shopping - try one of the two outlet malls, Fashion Show Mall across from Wynn's, Miracle Mile in Planet Hollywood, and the Forum Shops at Ceasers

Las Vegas NYE 2010

January 2010

We visited Las Vegas in January as a very last minute trip to see family. This was my third visit to Las Vegas and DH's second, and as a non-gambler, non-drinker I still never tire of it.

We always try and see something off the strip, last time it was the beautiful Valley of Fire, this time is was Red Rock Canyon. http://www.redrockcanyonlv.org/. This one's not as far off the strip, making it a popular spot. Another advantage, is that it's a driving circular route, allowing you to stop at various points and explore as much, or as little as you want.

It was also my Grandmothers birthday, so on recommendations we took her to the Eiffel Tower restaurant, where on the weekends you get a great view of the Bellagio fountains at lunch. http://www.parislasvegas.com/casinos/paris-las-vegas/restaurants-dining/eiffel-tower-restaurant-detail.html. My only complaint was we had pre-booked, were made to wait on the promise of a window view, and then someone gave the maitre d' cash and we got bumped back, I know it's Vegas and what happens, but we would have been happy with the seat as long as we didn't have to wait. But the food was great, the service ideal and the view spectacular.

During our afternoon/evening walking up and down the strip (which is a must for an visit) we checked out the new Aria Las Vegas.

As well as the usual suspects in Las Vegas.....

The most flameworthly part of this trip, is we arrived New Years Eve, and we never left the hotel room, jet lag...
