Paddington Reservoir Gardens, Sydney, Australia

May 2015

Quietly tucked away off Oxford Street in Paddington, Sydney, the Paddington Reservoir Gardens is a nice spot for a lazy, sunny afternoon.

Sydney Harbour Bridge, Photo Essay

One of my favourite things to do is to either walk over the Harbour Bridge, or sit at Kirribilli or Circular Quay and take in the view, whether during the day, at twilight or at night.

Opened in 1932, the Sydney Harbour Bridge (or the coathanger) contects North Sydney with the Sydney CBD.

It also happens to be the worlds sixth longest spanning  arch bridge, the worlds second widest long span bridge and the worlds tallest steel arch bridge.

While the Sydney Bridge Climb is a popular activity for visitors to Sydney, enjoying the free walk from one side of the harbour to the other can be just enjoyable.

Travel by photo

Some of my favourites since the age of digital photography (or more to the point since I embraced digital photography!).

Lord Howe Island, Australia
This is a favourite because it was our outlook for breakfast each day we stayed on Lord Howe Island, but the different shades of green and blue show the diversity of the Island.

Plitvice Lakes, Croatia
This was one of the places DH pushed for us to visit (normally its the other way around) and I like the colour of the water, matched with the rushing water.

Doubtful Sound, NZ
We had been disappointed with our trip the day before on Milford Sound, but I knew it would be a different experience when we hit this lookout on our way down to Doubtful Sound.

Galapagos, Equador
There are so many pictures from our trip to the Galapagos Islands, but this seal, combined with the red vegetation behind it made me think of home.

Bay of Fires Walk, Tasmania
The combination of the white of the lighthouse, the texture of the body of the lighthouse and the ripples caused by the wind in this picture make me remember what became a sunny lunch break.

Mauke, Cook Islands
We spent hours watching waves roll in the day this picture was taken. The blue in the waves and sky are calming for me.

I can remember how I felt when we took this picture, after four days hiking at altitude and a early morning start, seeing Machu Picchu was so much more spectacular than I expected it to be (and than this picture shows).

I don't know what I love about this picture, but we have this one in a few places over the house (including framed in A3 size), I think part of it is the sunlight on the left hand side.

Sunrise at Angkor Wat, Cambodia
A typical shot taken at Angkor Wat, but it's the colours that I love in it.

Where's your favourite picture taken from? What makes it your favourite?

What to do with all those travel photos

Sometimes it's hard to know what to do with your 100s (or 1000s) of digital photos when you get home. We've displayed them in a number of ways, and in fact still choose a select number to print and put into photo albums (retro I know...). So these are some of the ways we display our photos, what are yours?

One photo from each continent we've traveled to: Sunrise at Angkor Wat Cambodia, Lord How Island Australia, Machu Picchu Peru, Dubrovnik Croatia and Yosemite Falls, USA

Hard cover photo books - 2011 on the bottom and South America on the top

Rotating picture frames from our 2005 USA trip

Photo clock with various travel photos (and a few of the cat thrown in)

Capture the Colour

Katie at Katie not in Prague nominated me to take part in Travelsupermarket.com's Capture the Colour contest. I'm currently on the road, without access to my hard drive, so I've decided to choose photos from my blog that best capture the five colours best: blue, green, yellow, white, and red.

Blue
The blue in the sky and the blue of the water at Lake Titicaca, was nothing like the blue that we felt on a cold day in December 2010.

Green
My DH thinks that there's a colour missing - Black, so that I could put a picture of his favourite sports team up here (the All Blacks), but instead we have the field at Eden Park during the 2011 RWC instead. If you've never been to a All Blacks game (especially one in which they play the Wallabies), you're missing out on an atmosphere that I've never experienced anywhere else, the floor feels like it's vibrating in anticipation.

Yellow
This was taken towards the end of our trip in Croatia at the town of Rovinj in 2009. The yellow on the boat reminds me of sunshine for some reason and I often think of this shot.

White
Arequipa in Peru is known as the White City, and this shot was taken on the only clear morning we experienced there (and that didn't last for long).

Red
I wish I had a picture of the Australia outback on me for this one, but instead I've had to "settle" for this shot in Sedona. This was a quick stop on our 2005 West side US trip, it was in May and I can still remember feeling the heat raising through the ground.

As for the nominating of others, I would love to see photos from these bloggers:
