Cockatoo Island, Sydney, Australia

April 2015

It rained most of this Easter long weekend, but the skies cleared for the Sunday and Monday I spent on Cockatoo Island.

Cockatoo Island can be visited as a day trip from Sydney by ferry, or you can choose from many of the accommodation options, including glamping (tent, bedding and deck chairs provided).

The Island Bar is also located on Cockatoo Island, and has great views of Sydney harbour, combined with pizza and cocktails.

It was nice to sit on the grass, watching the sun set over the harbour, and the full moon rise over the bridge.

Cockatoo Island has a rich convict history, being a convict prison from 1839 to 1869.

The other main use for Cockatoo Island was as Dockyards, and there are many reminders of this part of its history as you walk around the Island.
