Street Art, Melbourne CBD, Australia

Melbourne is often referred to as the street art capital of Australia, and the CBD is a perfect example of where you can stumble across lanes and alleys full of recent additions to the city walls.

Christmas in Melbourne

November 2013

On a recent work trip to Melbourne the Christmas displays were just starting to go up. While the warm weather might not make those in the Northern hemisphere feel like Christmas, the decorations sure help you get in the holiday mood!.

Not everything was out yet, but Myer had their in-store and window displays out.

Stay
Marriott Melbourne - a bit out of the way for most of the touristy things but still only a few km walk from the action and the rooms are huge

Eat
Sushi Burger

Sushi at Yoyogi (the salmon sashimi/sushi box is always fresh)

Do
Run the river - just dress for the weather! (I wore to much clothes on a very hot day)
If in town for the holidays Myer has the window displays

Sushi Burger, Melbourne

November 2013

I was introduced to Sushi Burger by a friend while in Melbourne for work a few weeks back.

What is sushi burger I hear you say? This fabulous creation is two rice "buns" filled with delectable goodies and wrapped in seaweed. I had the soft shell crab sushi burger this time around (because how can you go wrong with soft shell crab).

This sushi burger place even had a sushi burger bento box (I should have gotten an extra sushi burger).

$12.50 plus an extra $1 for the soft shell crab

I can't believe this place has been open for 8 years and I've only just discovered it!

Melbourne, Vic, Australia

There's quite a rivalry between Sydneysiders and Melbournites, I'm currently spending a fair amount of time in Melbourne for work and while I get part of the argument (good cafe culture, European feel), in my opinion you can't beat Sydney harbour.

However DH and I did manage to fill in our weekend with the best Melbourne had to offer (although we didn't manage to get to an AFL game).

Stay
Quest Apartments SXY in South Yarra is a great base, just outside the city (within walking distance), and on the door of Chapel Street and Tourk Road.

Eat
  •  Pizza and bar snacks at Little Creatures , Fitzroy on the Friday night
  • Huxtaburgers , Collingwood for a very late night dinner - DH had the original and I had the Denise - the spicy version - unfortunately I ate too quickly to take pictures!
  • A late breakfast/brunch at Kazbar, Chapel Street
  • Hunkey Dory for fish and chips (or squid, salad and rice!)

Drink
Do
  • Check out Federation Square
  • Have a wonder down Chapel Street for high end fashion at one end and vintage wear down the other
  • Catch the tram out to the Queen Victoria Markets
  • Have a coffee at Docklands, with great views of the water and city skyline
  • Enjoy the Art Deco buildings
