Museum of Contemporary Art (or the MCA) Sydney

The MCA is conveniently located at Circular Quay in downtown Sydney.

Part of my Sydney Bucket list, my visit coincided with the last weekend of the 19th Biennale of Sydney.

While I'm not a huge fan of contemporary art, but the thing with art is there is always something you can find that captures your interest, makes you think or draws you in.

In case you can't read it: "It;s such a thin line between cleaver and stupid" I visited this one a number of times

While I didn't check out the food, the view from the rooftop cafe has to be one of the best in Sydney.

Smithsonian's, Washington DC, USA

You could spend a week in Washington DC and not see everything in the Smithsonian's. We had originally planned on spending a few hours in one after walking the memorials and the few hours the next morning in the others, but with the bad weather we did them back to back, which meant we burnt out early (it had been a long day) and missed a key exhibit at one of the museums (more on that later).

We started at The Air and Space Museum, which is reportedly the busiest museum in the world. Here there are 23 galleries exhibiting aircraft, spacecraft, missiles and other flight-related artifacts. My favourtie here was the satellite images and how the world changed over time.

We finished at The Natural History Museum, where we totally skipped the top level and hence missed the Hope Diamond. Other than the Hope Diamond this museum  covers early human origins, the development of world cultures and mammals, birds, amphibians, reptiles, insects and sea creatures. While we were there they had a photography exhibit on that had some spectacular shots.

Travel by Museum

DH and I are history buffs, a big part of our travel experience is learning about the history of a country, so needless to say most of the museums we have been to are history related but not all....


MONA, Hobart

The Museum of New and Old Art, is the new draw card for tourists in Hobart and worth the trip

Museo Inka, Cusco, Peru

It's beneficial to get a guide to take you through the large Museo Inka in Cusco, having said that we didn't and still got a good view of all the the museum covered.

The Auckland Museum has an impressive section on Maori and Polynesian history.
