Vogue Cafe, Macquarie Centre, Sydney, Australia

March 2015

The Vogue Cafe is located in the recently renovated Macquarie Shopping Center in Sydney.

There's a lot of fuss about this cafe, particularly their shakes.  And the shakes are good. But that's all that you should be ordering. They are large, sweet and filling. Their other food is just bland in comparison.

Cockatoo Island, Sydney, Australia

April 2015

It rained most of this Easter long weekend, but the skies cleared for the Sunday and Monday I spent on Cockatoo Island.

Cockatoo Island can be visited as a day trip from Sydney by ferry, or you can choose from many of the accommodation options, including glamping (tent, bedding and deck chairs provided).

The Island Bar is also located on Cockatoo Island, and has great views of Sydney harbour, combined with pizza and cocktails.

It was nice to sit on the grass, watching the sun set over the harbour, and the full moon rise over the bridge.

Cockatoo Island has a rich convict history, being a convict prison from 1839 to 1869.

The other main use for Cockatoo Island was as Dockyards, and there are many reminders of this part of its history as you walk around the Island.

A Work In Progress Pop up, Sydney, Australia

March 2015

A Work in Progress was a pop up restaurant in Sydney in March, as part of the March into Merivale. festival. Inspired by the late night super spots the chef enjoyed with fellow chefs.

Sichuan duck & tofu lo mein $16

Fried chicken, ginger
nuoc cham served with kimchi, pickled daikon, garlic cucumbers $16

The food was great comfort food and I was glad I was able to experience this pop up without the long lines others have experienced.

The Gap, Watsons Bay, Sydney, Australia

March 2015

Located East of the Sydney CBD, The Gap is a popular lookout point.

The day I visited was wet and overcast, but there were still views to be had up and down the coast.

If you continue to walk along the coastline from the Gap, you will run into Macquarie Lighthouse.

The Gap and Lighthouse can be accessed from Sydney by bus or ferry.

Butchers Block, Wahroonga, Sydney, Australia

February 2015

The Butcher's Block is located in the Sydney suburb of Wahroonga. The popular cafe often has a wait for Saturday breakfast (its not open on Sunday's) but this morning we were lucky.

pulled pork benedict
smoked paprika hollandaise, poached egg, sourdough, crackling

ricotta hotcakes
caramelized citrus fruits, blueberries, double cream

The food and the coffee were good, but I'm not sure its a place I'd wait an hour for brunch on a Saturday.
